A very sturdy pergola…

When building and designing garden structures space is everything, and a pergola is the ultimate example of how an outdoor space can be transformed. Pergolas float somewhere in the midst of both indoor and outdoor living, their space altering properties are very unique in this way.

Here the pergola covered a vast area of black Indian sand stone patio, that was otherwise quite stark with an almost industrial bleak sense about it. But once the pergola and furnishings were installed the space was completely metamorphosised. Not only was the shade’s pattern beautifully etched on the patio and wall, they also cast a wonderful striated barrier of protection from the days ferocious sun. Ideal for the young new family with their newborn and toddler running around.

There are many types of pergola designs, this one we feel captured the ornateness of traditional eastern designs as well as the strong base which rings an air of ancient English timber builds, using traditional techniques for the v=bracing is typical of larger pergolas like this one.

We love creating designing and building garden structures and this one was a joy throughout the process, especially given the wonderful weather we had through the entire build.
